1. Preamble

This course endows students with a general overview of the numerical simulation domain and a focus on the multi-agent based simulation domain. The issues and challenges in modeling, running and evaluating simulations are discussed and different solutions are studied. Use cases will be developed using multi-agent simulation platforms for simulating digital twins in the context of Industry 4.0, Health or Intelligent transportation domains.

3. Assignments

3.1. Review Report

Prepare a review report of the three scientific articles below. These articles describe the standard protocol, the ODD protocol and extensions, for describing simulation models, in particular agent-based models.

The report should be at most 5 pages long (A4 page format with 1.27cm margins) except references, written in English using font Times New Roman, font size 11, and single spaced. Ensure that your name in full is clearly visible on the first page.

Important
You should read and provide your view on these scientific articles, whose understanding will be relevant for the preparing the Project Report. Any evidence of misconduct will be investigated to determine if it can be considered a disciplinary offense.

You must upload a single PDF document at the Upload Review Report until March 14, 2025 @23h59. The filename should include your last name, so it is easy to identify.

3.2. Project

The project description is available at Project Description.

You must upload a single ZIP file at the Upload Project until March 28, 2025 @23h59. The file must contain:

  • Project report (Single PDF document)

  • Repast source code (Java project folder)

  • Presentation (Single PPTX or PDF file)

4. Grading policy

  • 10% Review Report [Deadline March 14, 2025 @23h59 Link Upload Review Report]

  • 90% Project [Deadline March 28, 2025 @23h59 Link Upload Project]

    • 50% Project report

    • 25% Source code

    • 25% Presentation

Note
Late submission of any assignment (Review Report and Project) will be penalized in 10% for the first week of delay and 10% for each additional week of delay; the student will be given 0 for the assignment if the submission is delayed for more than 4 weeks or the work is submitted less than 1 week prior the deadline for professors submitting the official grades to the school, the one that is arrives first applies.
